Ministers and Staff
Ephesians 4: 4-7 There is one body and one Spirit – just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call – one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.
Below are our ministers and staff. While we all have different responsibilities, we are a team that has the desire to work together to see God glorified and to carry out the mission God has given to our church. If you’d like to contact one of them, please click on their name to send them an email:
Fred Thompson – Teaching Pastor/Elder
Pastor Fred has been serving as the Pastor of Mt Gilead since 2009. He previously served in Florida and Mississippi. He began his career in engineering before God changed the direction of his life and then went back to school to receive his Master of Divinity degree from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife Mary have two beautiful daughters.
Harvey Wilson – Senior Adult Pastor
Harvey has spent most of his life here at Mt. Gilead growing up as a part of the church. He has served on staff working with our Senior Adult Ministry (the Happy Timers). He also has a special heart for children. He has written several children’s books that we have available through our Children’s Ministry. He also teaches an adult Sunday School class each Sunday at 9:30. Clint Whitlock – Student Minister
Clint began as our Minister to Students (Youth) in the summer of 2013. He and his wife Heather have a heart to see youth come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and to grow spiritually. They also have a heart for missions and participate in mission trips through the Flint River Baptist Association. Clint is bi-vocational and works for the public school system. Mandy Fleming – Children’s Ministry Director
Mandy began serving as our Children’s Ministry Director in 2019. Mandy and her husband Travis have been connected to Mt. Gilead for a very long time. Travis grew up at Mt. Gilead and attended until his early 20’s when he met and married Mandy. They served as missionaries in Southeast Asia from 2001-2009 with Mt Gilead as their sending church. Since returning stateside, they have been involved in many different church ministries ranging from teaching children’s classes to being a part of praise and worship teams. Mandy loves children and is excited to spread the love of Jesus to our Mt. Gilead children. Mandy and Travis have 3 children of their own. John Dennis- Interim Music Minister
John and his wife Melissa have been members of Mt. Gilead for almost a decade. John plays the guitar and leads us in worship each week. Melissa teaches our middle school Sunday School class and their family also hosts a 2:42 small group on Friday night’s at their house. They have 6 children.
We are prayerfully looking for a Music Minister to join our staff. If you are called to be a worship leader and are interested in blending modern contemporary music with traditional music and hymns by leading our Praise Team and/or restarting our Celebration Choir, then please contact Pastor Fred.
Julie Smith – Financial Secretary
Julie keeps an eye our finances. She makes sure our bills are paid and that we honor God with our finances. Julie works closely with our Finance Committee and Church Treasurer to ensure that everything given to Mt. Gilead is used for God’s work.
